Based on her painting about the Silver mountain at Tegoro, Sarawak, I have cut out some outlines to represent the mountain and foliage. The base has also been glued in.
My aim in setting up this blog is in exploring flats (zinnfiguren) as an art form. Once thought of as playthings, flats have evolved into very artistic pieces, created for and treasured by collectors. I prefer to explore flats in a contextual setting by putting them into shadow-box dioramas of artistic merit which can be reasonably contained within a manageable space. The chronology of this web blog will hopefully blaze a definite trail in this direction.

Marianne North
I have been quite busy doing other 3-D modelling so this blog has been quiet for a while. However, I have been reading this delightful book about Marianne North (A Vision of Eden) and it features many of her great paintings now housed in the Kew Gardens. A short sentence taken from Wikipedia about her:
Marianne North (24 October 1830 – 30 August 1890) was a prolific English Victorian biologist and botanical artist, notable for her plant and landscape paintings.

She travelled extensively and had also visited Borneo twice. As Borneo is home to the Orang-utans, I am planning to do a jungle scene featuring one of her paintings as the backdrop and incorporating the orang-utan figures.

My photographic skills seem to have improved somewhat.
Hamlet: You should have joined the IFFS.

Background resizing
I had initially made this background a little too small to fit the box-case. To rectify this, I decided to cut through the centre and add an adjoining mid-section. This resized background will now be treated with putty and gesso. I probably will use this for a jungle scene.
